Bloody periods

Have you seen these? It's Vice's attempt to break the taboo surrounding periods. What do you think? I find it really gross to look at, but that of course proves the point that we aren't comfortable talking or seeing period blood. Especially not in public. These blood stains are only confined to our bathrooms and bedrooms. Very interesting campaign.

Senior Love Triangle

Love is a primary urge at every age. I love this reportage by Isadora Kosofsk, called: Senior Love Triangle.

“The aged are becoming increasingly hidden and disenfranchised. I noticed that even towards the end of my grandmother’s life, she appeared distant from society,” Kosofsky says. The photographer is currently engaged in photographing a three-part series on aging—a subject about which she is passionate. “I feel that age is a perceived barrier and that we too have once, either literally or figuratively, shared their fear of isolation and their wish for acknowledgement,” she explains. “Even when Jeanie and Adina are not present, Will walks with his right hand straight and open at his side, as if he were waiting for someone to hold on.”

Judith Butler on gender

I put this up a long time ago. But must say, the way she explains gender performativity is amazing.

An idiot's rant: Senator argues that women should dress like crap to curb HIV

"WOMEN must bath occasionally, shave-off their hair, dress shabbily and get circumcised to make them less attractive to men, a Senator has proposed during a conference on HIV."

Um, come again?

Morgan Femai, the MDC-T senator for Chikomo, recently proposed this to curb HIV/AIDS. Because men simply can't resist attractive women.

That's a bit weak isn't it?

Ok sure, we'll do that then. NOT. This takes us back to the SLUTWALK argument. It's not the way women dress, it's how men think. Not all men of course.

He continues his ridiculous rant by saying:

“What I propose is that the government should come up with a law that compels women to have their heads clean-shaven like what the Apostolic sects do.“They should also not bath because that is what has caused all these problems (spread of HIV).”

People, sorry chauvinistic a-holes like these, should not be allowed to make ANY political, social or ANY decisions for that matter.

Ridiculous woman has homophobic rant

This woman is completely crazy! She recently made news when she had a homophobic rant during Lincoln's Anti-Discrimination Law Hearings. Seriously lady, go back to the hole you crawled out of! I love the guy sitting behind her!

The Barbie Tutorial

These kinds of video tutorials are of course going HUGE on the net. They are brilliant I must say, especially Michelle and Promise Phan's videos. They now have millions of followers and the numbers are climbing. But why? Who really wants to look like a Barbie? Will we soon be seeing 'every day folk' walking around looking like this or are people merely intrigued by the transformation of a face?

Androgynous or just plain misogynistic?

These are the new photos featured in Tom Ford's 2012 Lookbook. Way more boobs, bums and flesh than clothes I must say. They look very androgynous, yet, the misogynistic nature of the pics tick me off. It's fun and playful, yet it reminds us of the '50s ads. The focus almost always on the man, looking powerful, as the woman sits quietly, looking vulnerable.

'My hero.'

The woman tends to the mans needs.

The woman is dominated by the man in these pictures, hence the misogynistic undertone.

She is merely an extra, a toy. He's the important one.
