Christmas

Christmas, children, is not a date. It is a state of mind.

Child labour and the fashion industry

Recently, it was discovered that most of the cotton used to make lingerie for lux brand, Victoria's Secret, comes from Burkina Faso where children are exploited to do most of the labour. This is of course not the first time that child-labour has been used to make clothes or textiles used to make clothes. One really needs to think about where your clothes are coming from. The need to have cheap clothes is causing suppliers to turn to child and even slave labour. Check out this short video on child labour in China.

Why the big fuss?

Everyone is going crazy over Andrej Pejic posing for HEMA, like it's something compeletely different to what he usually does, model clothes traditionally meant for women. Aren't bras exactly the same?

I think this is a great way to show that people are sexed in various ways and that the boundaries of what is normal and abnormal can actually start to break down.

Lady Gaga's new video

Lady Gaga's new video is like nothing she's ever done. It's a music video and documentary combined. I am utterly fascinated by her. Her androgynous approach is such a fresh and different way of thinking and of being.

Visit my new blog: stealing shots

stealing shots can be described as: An uber cool, anthropological look at people on the street. We steal shots of their daily beauty.

It' s a blog about people you see every single day on the street. We should all be seen and heard. We are all beautiful.

Here' s what you can expect from this blog:

Last Dictator Standing ad by Nando's

I must say that I laughed incredibly hard when I watched Nando's new ad, featuring dictators like Mugabe, Gaddafi and P.W. Botha. They just have THE BEST ads ever! After watching it, I though a little bit more about it and it made me wonder. Laughing at dictators is funny of course, because they usually behave in such ridiculous and childish ways. But seeing them in this light does trivialise their deeds and the people they've affected.

Political leaders kissing

The UNHATE campaign by United Colours of Benetton (UCB) is just awesome! UCB is of course very well known for using shocking or contradictory images to promote their brand, for example a nun kissing a priest. This campaign, which shows world leaders kissing, is of course photoshopped, but it says so much.

UNHATE each other, but also each other’s beliefs, races, sexualities, etc.

More banned ads

Gosh, this is quite an image. Ads are usually banned for being sexually offensive or demeaning. Some of these are just down right not cool.

Thought to show plus-sized women in negative light

Crazy ads banned for being sexually offensive

Thought to glorify gang rape/ orgies

Thought to sexualize children. The model was 22 years old, but looked really young.

The nudity had nothing to do with the actual product being advertised.
