Women with breast cancer expose their post-op breasts

I really think this is an amazing project, that really shows the pain these women endure and showcases their extreme bravery.

'A series of large-scale portraits of young breast cancer survivors shot by fashion photographer David Jay. Primarily an awareness raising campaign, The SCAR Project puts a raw, unflinching face on early onset breast cancer while paying tribute to the courage and spirit of so many brave young women. large-scale portraits of young breast cancer survivors shot by fashion photographer David Jay. More on Saudi women taking the wheel

This video is a little bit outdated, since it still says that women are not allowed to vote in Saudi Arabia. Luckily this recently changed. However, there are still many, many other issues that women face in terms of gender inequality. Saudi women are trying to take a stand by trying to mobilize more and more women to start driving. Driving is not against Saudi law, which is why Saudi women are resisting the custom that women are not allowed to drive.

Birth Control Video Game

This is quite interesting, using a video game to teach teens about unplanned pregnancies. Dubbed "Birth Control Brigade," the game challenges players to stop sperm from reaching a waiting ovum (and thereby stave off pregnancy) by selecting from a variety of contraceptives. This game is now being used in many sex ed classes in Canada. I think it might actually expose teens to all the different contraceptives on the market in a...mmm, fun way?

Here is also a birth control promotional video that is quite open and informative. I think if more countries took this approach, making contraceptives as normal and easily acceptable as can be, it would avoid a lot of problems, e.g. girls being to scared to ask the pharmacist for The Pill, etc.

Male Pin-Ups

Originally, the so-called pin-up refers to female models posing in a provocative manner. That's until now. Recently, a series of photos showing men posing as pin-ups were released. These images was created by 26-year-old photographer, Rion Sabean, in a collection he's aptly dubbed "Men-Ups." Now, I'm just wondering whether these images are set to mock the whole idea of the pin-up or is it intended to change gendered perceptions....

Page-3 girl takes up bodybuilding

I find this story quite interesting, maybe also because I once stood next to Jodi Marsh, 32 (one of Britian's most famous page-3 girls) in a London club. She was once famous for her curves, but now her body is making the headlines once again, this time around, for very different reasons. She was seen showing off her new muscular body in the Natural Physique Association (NPA) Mike Williams Classic and Pro-Am Bodybuilding Championships last month. She has completely transformed herself.

Before

After

In order to get the look she undertook a gruelling diet and exercise regime, actually shrinking her from a size 10 to a size 6.

'This is the best I’ve ever felt, and the best my body has ever felt too. 'In just 50 days I have gone from 25 per cent body fat to 10 per cent body fat, gained 8 pounds of muscle, and lost 20 pounds of fat. In 8 weeks I have achieved what normally takes 6 to 9 months,' she said.

Once again, this shows how closely the body and the mind are connected. Our bodies constantly drive our opinions about ourselves and makes us either super happy or self-conscious and depressed. With so much focus on the body, this is likely to result in an inevitable future, where the state of our body will always determine our state of the mind...
